Roz in Big Sea little boat

ORI is assisting Roz Savage to become the first woman to row solo across the Pacific Ocean. Roz, in her own words, is "paddling the Pacific, rowing towards a greener world, one stroke at a time."

CARBON COUNTDOWN TO COPENHAGEN

Roz Savage aims to engage people everywhere in the challenges presented by climate change – from the bottom up and from the top down, to bring about maximum effect in minimum time. Roz’s efforts are supported and endorsed by a number of non-profit organizations, including the United Nations Environment Programme, Al Gore’s Climate Project, Dot Eco, The Blue Planet Foundation, and several others. The Ocean River Institute is only nonprofit raising funds to reimburse the expenses of Roz's inspirational endeavors.

On October 24th, designated as a global day of action on climate change, Roz will launch a 6-week campaign in Europe to spread her message of inspiration and action on climate change.

In December, Roz will board the United Nations Climate Express train as a UNEP Climate Hero and a Climate Project Ambassador. The train will arrive in Copenhagen on December 5th for the start of the climate change summit, its passengers armed with a global petition to secure immediate, aggressive action on climate change. Roz will deliver a personal message to the politicians and decision-makers attending the summit that their constituents around the world want decisive action taken immediately to reduce global CO2 levels.

Roz’s fans and supporters are encouraged to participate in her campaign by pledging to walk more and drive less, thereby reducing their own carbon footprint. They are invited to match the 10,000 oarstrokes that Roz takes during a typical day on the ocean by walking 10,000 steps a day - good for the body, and good for the planet.

Participants will be encouraged to share their experiences with others through photos, emails, videos and through social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, and on the official website of pulltogether09.org. Roz's website at www.rozsavage.com will continue to provide fans with an up-to-the-minute look at Roz’s progress toward Copenhagen, and be filled with exciting, interactive content.

Pulling Together as a global community will remind each participant that they are part of something powerful. It will also drive home Roz’s core message that many small actions, repeated consistently over time, add up to big results.

Upon arrival in Copenhagen, Roz will stand alongside partners from the United Nations, The Climate Project, Nickelodeon and children from around the world. Together, they will address the global delegates and make a special presentation of a collective petition.

To symbolize the collective efforts of all those who participated in Pull Together, Roz will deliver the following message: “This is our beautiful, fragile planet home – its fate and ours now rest in your hands. We have demonstrated our commitment to the changes that must be made. We have all Pulled Together and we now implore you: Take care of our home. Do what needs to be done to protect it. The time is now. We are here and we support you."
