Alaska Oceans Festival

The Alaska Ocean Festival meets the needs of ecosystems and communities. A huge success in 2007, this year's 5th annual Oceans Festival will be even bigger and better! The primary focus of the annual festival is to educate the public and raise awareness about the importance of healthy oceans and to celebrate the bounty of Alaska's many marine resources. The festival presents a unique opportunity to bring Alaskans together to share, learn and to celebrate the significance oceans have in our lives.

Alexandra Cousteau is dedicated to advocating the importance of conservation and sustainable management of water resources in order to preserve a healthy planet.

Alexandra Cousteau

Alaska Oceans Festival 2008 Keynote Speaker, Alexandra Cousteau, is dedicated to advocating the importance of conservation and sustainable management of water resources in order to preserve a healthy planet. Her global initiative seeks to inspire and empower individuals to protect not only the ocean and its inhabitants, but the human communities that rely on the purity of our freshwater resources.

At the Alaskan Ocean Festival musicians, speakers, artists, and ocean conservation groups spend a day celebrating our Alaskan connections to the ocean. The “Bucking Salmon,” a 2500 gallon Kayak Demo Pool, a foot race, education treasure hunt and exhibitors that include the Ocean River Institute are just a few of the attractions. The Seafood Olympics with Anchorage Mayor Begich consists of 3 minute speed shrimp peeling, guess fish roe count, fillet salmon, guess the weight of a salmon, and longest bucking salmon ride.
