We found snowy owls were suffering near Barrow Alaska when warming weather brought rain instead of snow. Snowy owls nest out on the tundra.
Before snow stayed on top of the downy feathers of chicks. Now cold water penetrates feathers can cause chicks to die from exposure. Many dead lemmings looking drowned were seen lying in runways between the low vegetation. Parasitic jaegars nested and patrolled the area.
We visit George Divoky 25 miles east of Plover Point, Barrow.
