A Myriad of Challenges Facing Ocean Life

David Helvarg of Blue Frontiers talked with Rob about the myriad of challenges facing endangered life from Hawaii to Georges Banks and from Louisiana bayous to Michigan’s Straits of Mackinac. The author of Saved by the Sea: Hope, Heartbreak, and Wonder in the Blue World and the Golden Shore of California, spoke about his book: Rescue Warriors: The U.S. Coast Guard, America’s Forgotten Heroes.  David recently visited Hawaii and reports on the status of monk seals, Nene Geese, and the state of indigenous wildlife.  The founder of Blue Vision Summit conferences in Washington, going up the Hill for oceans, has formed the Sea Party Coalition of about 60 groups.  They are planning November 4 to be a day of ocean education.  No drilling of oil and gas in the Arctic and the Atlantic Ocean is their message for Washington legislators and in particular presidential candidates. The goal is to undo President Obama permitting of oil and gas drilling in ocean areas.
