June 8th is officially recognized by the UN as World Ocean Day. The concept for a “World Ocean Day” was first proposed in 1992 by the Government of Canada at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
Celebrate World Ocean Day by taking micro-actions to save the ocean. Many small actions are making a noticeable difference in the health of our oceans, perhaps remove some plastic from a beach, reduce water waste, or reduce our carbon footprint by walking instead of driving/riding in an internal combustion contraption.
California Pizza Kitchen at the Cambridgeside Galleria in Cambridge MA is recognizing
World Ocean Day by giving 20% of your purchase, dine in or take out, to the Ocean River Institute. Help save ocean ecosystems by eating anchovies at the bottom of food chains instead of apex predators, bluefin tuna or swordfish – chow down food chain.
Here’s an opportunity to save our ocean by eating pizza. Bring in this flyer, CA Pizza for Ocean, present it to your server, and CA Pizza will donate 20% of your check to ORI.
In regards to illegal pirate international fishing, we are excited to announce that the Senate has introduced a companion bill to H.R. 774 the House IUU bill. Senator Murkowski with the co-sponsorship of Senator Schatz and Senator Sullivan have introduced S.1334 (https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/114/s1334). One out of every five fish, or 20% of seafood imports are from Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing. These bill will give our coasts the tools to thwart the flow and support local fisheries with relatively larger share of the market for underutilized fish like skate, redfish and dogfish. Save fish, eat pizza in support of ORI – every slice helps.
