Inian Islands Institute was born when four Stanford PhD students, recognizing the deep importance of experiential education and Alaska’s power to capture the imagination, coalesced around a common mission.
Inian Islands Passage
Our goal is to purchase a gorgeous property in the Wilderness of Southeast Alaska called the Hobbit Hole, where we will establish a one-of-a-kind field school, bringing researchers and student groups for hands-on courses in ecology, sustainability, and human-environment interactions.
Inian Island Institute completes incubation partnership with ORI
At the end of 2015 Inian Island Institute established its own 501c3 tax status. While partnered with ORI, they raised significant funds to commence acquisition of the property and run field biology programs. III is today an independent organization.
