Deanna Busdieker, City Councilor of Cascade Locks, Oregon talks with Rob about Nestle taking of over 100 million gallons of water from Oxbow Springs on the Columbia River. Located just 100 yards outside of Mt. Hood National Forest, Oxbow Springs supplies water for a salmon and steelhead hatchery. The hatchery will instead have to use well water. Threatened steelhead and salmon take refuge from warm river water in the cold spots fed by Oxbow Springs into Herman Creek. Native American tribal groups and local citizens have organized together in opposition. Hood River County residents should Vote YES on the Water Protection Ballot Measure before May 17.
Liz Stebbins, ORI intern attending Harvard College, talks with Rob about lobsters. Being from New Mexico, Liz brings a wonderful perspective to the biology and fishery of this remarkable crustacean.
