Description

Gannet is a Rhodes 27 with ¾ sloop rig, 39 feet overall and 27 feet on the waterline. Philip Rhodes designed the racing cruiser as a result of a design competition sponsored by the Fishers Island Yacht Club. Gannet was the second Rhodes 27 built by the Henry Nevins yard at City Island, New York in 1938. In 2022, the white mainsail was replaced with a new tanbark mainsail. Traditionally, cotton sails were soaked in tannins from tree bark to slow rot.
